I love the feel and smell and responsiveness of clay. I love its honesty, the way it can be manipulated but let’s you know exactly where its edges are. I love how the skin of clay stretches and splits without breaking when you bend it at just the right moment. I love the idea that the clay I work with was once the earth we stand on. I love that it’s been around forever. I love the process of constructing a form and the resulting organic quality of a handbuilt piece. I love how each person’s work reflects their own body and personality. I love how the clay can reach into my unconscious and cause me to make things I don’t understand why I make until later.
