Barbara Francis

I began working with clay in the late 70’s while attending Hope College in Holland, MI.

I studied pottery at Art Centers, Ceramic Institutes, and Community colleges in Michigan, New York, and Texas from 1980 until about 2000.  I have taught pottery at Art Center Waco, University for Young People at Baylor University, and in my home studio.  I have exhibited through Community College competitions, and also at the Ft. Worth NCECA. I have received awards at Bountiful Bowls pottery festival in Rockport, TX (2014 First Place).  I recently received “Best in Show” and “Best in Category” at the Waco Cultural Arts Fest.

I enjoy looking at the world through “potter’s eyes”.  I search for textures and forms in nature and by scavenging through estate sales.  I use leaves, old lace, buttons, cardboard and hand-made stamps to embellish my work.  I also frequently use sgrafitto and sprigging techniques as decorative elements.  I utilize hand-building and throwing techniques.  Pottery is truly my lifelong passion.
